(Evans City Cemetery - Evans City, PA)

A Little History

The famous Evan's City Cemetery located in Evan's City, PA is the home of the opening scene of the original 1968 movie - "Night of the Living Dead". The cemetery scenes were shot in November 1967. According to sources, not much has changed in 38 years. New residents have been added and others are still dying to get in there! >8>| The Evans City Cemetery could not be used for the 30th anniversary edition. Before filming the new footage, a tornado had torn through the Evans City Cemetery on May 31, 1985 and ironically, it unearthed several graves. Interestingly, this was the same tornado that wiped out much of Aedryan's hometown of Albion, PA when he was only 14 years old. Aedryan remembers that day well!

The Evans City Cemetery Association was incorporated January 7, 1891, with forty-nine members. The directors named in the constitution are: Henry J. IFFT, John ROHNER, George MARBURGER, Enos BARKEY and J. A. RIPPER. An eligible site was purchased and laid out in lots and this cemetery has since been used by the people of Evans City and vicinity. The cemetery contains many nice monuments and the soldiers' monument was erected in 1894 to the memory of the unknown dead being the most noticeable.

Prior to investigating the Evans City Cemetery the SHGHRS had not heard any reports of it being haunted. We simply thought that it would be a neat place to add to our repertoire of historical locations that we have investigated. To this date we have been unable find any reports of ghostly activity there or even any other groups that have conducted actual investigations there. We may be the first! However, we did find a hardcore Night Of The Living Dead fan who actually took dirt from the Evans City Cemetery, bottled it up and is trying to sell it. We also found an old auction on Ebay, where some idiot had walked through the cemetery with his camcorder and was auctioning off the video as "A Tour Of The Night Of The Living Dead Cemetery".

So, is the Evans City Cemetery - AKA "The Night Of The Living Dead Cemetery" haunted? Do the dead really walk the nights there? Read on....

The SHGHRS June 24, 2005 Investigation

On June 24, 2005 SHGHRS member's - Aedryan, DD and Tony, along with FORMER members - Lynne and Michelle conducted an investigation at the Evans City Cemetery. As soon as Aedryan got his video recorder setup he almost immediately reported seeing what appeared to be orb activity. Aedryan only recorded a total of 60 minutes of video footage on this night, in which several orbs and other strange light anomalies were captured. Aedryan, DD and Tony continued taking pictures throughout the night, in which many possible orbs and other strange anomalies were captured. Michelle and Lynne monitored for electro magnetic frequency and temperature fluctuations off and on. No anomalous temperature fluctuations were noted. We did obtain strange EMF readings on a couple different occasions, but nothing in the 0 - 1 milligauss range. We noted that there were power lines, which run through the rear of the cemetery and the closer we got to them the more EMF readings we would get, even from over 100 yards away. However, we were getting low EMF readings in the front section of the cemetery, where no apparent electrical sources seemed to be. Our assumption was that the readings were not likely paranormal, as they seemed to come from the ground. It should also be noted that Aedryan suddenly felt sick, tired and weak as soon as we got out of the van when we first arrived at the cemetery, but it passed. No one else had reported any similar feelings, so it was probably nothing....

"A Bug?"

Comments: For what it's worth, this photo was captured at 12:48 AM. The SHGHRS has always considered these anomalies to be bugs and we're pretty sure this one is as well. The thing that baffles us is, its likeness to all of the above "Glowing White Energies With A Purple Glow" anomalies. It makes us wonder if the "Glowing White Energy" photos are nothing more than bugs, but out of several of those anomalies we captured on this night, why do only two of them seem to have, at least what resembles wings? If they are all indeed bugs, our best guess would be that, we just get lucky once in awhile and have the bug facing us with its wings spread when the photo is taken. The anomalies that don't appear to have wings could just be a side view of the bug and the wings just blend in with the rest of it and we can't see them. On the other hand, why does the "Bright Orb With Purple Glow", shown above in the second photo, have the same purple glow as these other anomalies? We just don't know for sure. One thing is for certain though, the orb shown in the second photo is definitely not a bug. It's photos like this that makes us rip our hair out!

But again, why do these two have the same purple glow to them that the orb has and if they are the same thing as the "Glowing White Energy" photos, why are they the only two that seem to have what resembles wings?

"Vaporous Misty Energy"

We find this photo to be very interesting, because it has the same appearance as the "Glowing White Energy" photos, but this one seems to have a vaporous appearance with a misty type substance coming off of it. Also, note that a couple of the still shots shown below, which we captured directly from anomalous video footage seem to have a vaporous appearance as well.

A lot of orb activity and strange lights were recorded on video during this investigation, but as always, we will only post the best clips. Additionally, we are pretty certain that we captured a "Red Plasma Rod" on video, but we have ruled it inconclusive, due to the fact that the video recorder was moving, because Aedryan was carrying it at the time, so we will not post it.

Another Spiney/Ribbon-Like Orb - This orb has an incredibly spiney appearance. You'll notice that Aedryan asked the orb to go back out in front of the camera and it does just that. It very well could just be a coincidence, but this happens pretty frequently.

Strange Lights - Watch back by the tree line. These strange lights showed up in several of our video clips. We think there is a good possibility that these lights may be the anomalies we call "Glowing White Energy" or "Fiery Red Energy" photos in this report. And by the way, Aedryan was joking in the clip. We weren't really trying to summon demons (LOL).

DD's Evidence

Anamolous Photos Captured

Before we get too far into DD's photographs, we feel it is necessary to discuss the camera she used on this night. Firstly, the camera belonged to Tony and we are happy to say we will never have to worry about dealing with that camera again! Anyway, the camera was an Olympus C920Z, D450Z 1.3 Megapixel Digital Camera and the following photos were shot at the camera's highest resolution of 1280 x 960. The camera had a fantastic flash, which we always liked about it, BUT it was also notorious for having a very slow shutter speed. You will also notice tiny little green and red dots that appear in the same place in most of the following photos. Our understanding is that these are known as "pixel errors", which are essentially just pixels that don't fill in when the camera processes the photo. But, back to the slow shutter speed issue.... For those of you who don't already know, slow shutter speeds are no good for ghost hunting unless the camera is mounted to a tripod, where the camera can not move or jiggle while the camera is processing the photo. Otherwise, blurry photos can occure as a result. Additionally, when there is a light source, you can get swirly light streaks in your photos as a result of a slow shutter speed and camera movement, which can be mistaken as something paranormal to the untrained eye. A tripod was not used with this camera on this night.

Anyway, our point here is, the camera used to take the following photos had known issues, which we have addressed to the best of our ability. We are very familiar with the types of false positive ghost photos that can result from slow shutter speeds and we know how to spot them. None of the following photos have the notorious characteristics of false positive ghost photos that are caused by slow shutter speeds, but the camera captured a lot of strange anomalies at this particular location that night. The camera had never captured ANY anomalies like these during any of our other investigations, nor has any of our other cameras, so we are not familiar with many of these anomalies. If anyone knows what the numerous anomalies are (paranormal or otherwise) in the photos below, which we have named "Strange Anomaly", please let us know.

"Strange Anomaly # 1 With Orbs"

Comments: DD captured this photo at 10:23 PM. We have no idea what this is, but this same anomaly showed up in MANY of DD's photos. After literally months of examining all of DD's photos numerous times that she had taken on this night, we were ready to just write these anomalies off as some sort of processing error, due to the amount of them that showed up in her photos. We have consulted other paranormal investigators as well and no one seems to know what would cause this. What had troubled us most about these anomalies was the fact that none of the other cameras used on this night seemed to capture these anomalies. However, we recently discovered this same anomaly in one of the last photos Crumbwell had taken on this night, so we feel it might be possible that these anomalies could be paranormal afterall. The majority of these anomalies were captured in the same exact area where Aedryan had been watching orbs in real time through his nightvision, as DD had been trying to capture photos of the orbs as we were seeing them. Due to the amount of orb activity we recorded on video in this area, it further adds to the possibility that these anomalies could be paranormal. We shouldn't fail to mention that, what at least seems to be this same single vivrant green orb, shows up in numerous other photos during this investigation. It seems that if it were some strain of pollen, multiple green orbs would show up in the photos, as opposed to one single green orb and dust isn't green, so you be the judge....

The bright part of the anomaly seems to have what at least resembles wings, which makes us wonder if these anomalies are simply caused by the camera's slow shutter speed photographing bug's flight patterns. But, judging by most of the "flight patterns" above, it doesn't really seem likely. This was the last photo taken in this area then we moved.

Though this camera has a slow shutter speed, there is clearly no light source that could have caused the camera's slow shutter speed to cause this and it is not the kind of false positive anomaly that is usually associated with slow shutter speeds. "Plasma Rod"

Some paranormal investigators refer to this type of "dotted"anomaly as a "Plasma Rod" and they claim they can be seen with the naked eye on occassion. We aren't sure what they are, but we have captured photos of them with other cameras on other rare occassions. It has a strong resemblance to some of the still shots captured from the video, which further authenticates them. Notice how it seems to be either lifting from the tombstone or coming to rest on it. We feel it is likely landing on the tombstone rather than lifting off of it, because in the photo before this one it was above the tombstone.

Conclusion

Clearly an enormous amount of very interesting anomalies were captured in photos and on video during our trip to the Evans City Cemetery. It would be an understatement for us to say this cemetery seems to have a lot of activity. We believe it is most likely the most active location we have ever investigated! We feel there may be a reason for that. As previously mentioned in our report, there are power lines that run through the rear of the cemetery. If spirits do indeed thrive on energy, we can't imagine a better place to find ghostly activity than in a cemetery with power lines. This could quite possibly explain why the orbs and other strange anomalies we captured are so bright, vivrant and glowing. It could also quite possibly explain why we captured so many anomalies compared to any other location we've ever investigated. If it weren't for the excellent orb activity and strange lights we captured on video, skeptics could easily say these anomalies are just some sort of natural energy or electricity of some sort, but we do not believe that to be the case with most of them at least.

So, is "The Cemetery Of The Living Dead" haunted? We can't say that it is haunted per se', but
