A Study Of Orbs Written By Aedryan Methyus What are Orbs? Honestly, we can't say for sure! But, there are a few different theories about them. Below, we will mention all of the possible theories that we are aware of to date: Orb Theory 1 The most popular belief suggests that an orb is a spirit's "default" form so to speak. In this theory it is thought that perhaps an orb is the spirit's most efficient form, which requires the least amount of energy. Orb Theory 2 This theory suggests that a spirit may be capible of essentially splitting itself up into SEVERAL orbs, which all go out and collect energy then reassemble themselves into one. Orb Theory 3 Theory 3 is very similar to theory 2, only the theory suggests that if the spirit itself does not actually divide itself up into several orbs, maybe the orbs are a form of energy that the spirit is able to either omit from itself or it is an undiscovered from of earthly energy that the spirit is able to manipulate in order to collect energy for itself, etc. The Unanimous Spirit Energy Theory Whatever the case, one theory that pretty much all paranormal investigators share is that spirits thrive or "feed" if you will, on energy. It is believed that when spirit's energy levels are at higher levels, that is when less subtle manifestations occure and ghostly activity increases. Additionally, it is believed that when a spirit has accumulated enough energy, it can take other ghostly forms, such as ectoplasm and apparitions, which require a greater amount of energy accumulation/expenditure for a spirit to manifest into those forms. Orb Theory 4 Certain paranormal investigators that put more focus on aliens and UFO's than ghosts suggest that orbs are not ghosts at all, but rather alien beings. Orb Theory 5 In relation to "Theory 5", some UFO driven folks think that if orbs are not actually alien beings, they may be a means for aliens to spy on humans here on earth and transmit data back to them, etc. On a personal note, I feel that this theory is ludicrous, but anyway.... Orb Theory 6 And finally, one theory suggests that orbs are not paranormal at all, but rather an intelligent, undiscovered lifeform or energy. What Is The SHGHRS' Theory? We feel that to believe in any one of these theories would be presumptuous and it would amount to nothing more than speculation. We have not seen any solid evidence to support any of these theories and to our knowledge, neither has any other paranormal investigation group. Does The SHGHRS Have Any Solid FACTS About Orbs? Absolutely! They have been debunked once and for all, along with just about every other "light anamoly", "energy streak" and "vortex" photo in existence! The Midnite Walkers Paranormal Research Society recently shared their results from a series of orb experiments with us, which were conducted by one of their members and they were kind enough to allow us to add their findings to our orb study. After reviewing their findings, we have changed our views drastically, regarding most photographic anamolies and we are working to update all of our past reports to reflect this new evidence as time permits. Click Here to view their study and learn why NO orb photo should ever be considered paranormal! About Orb Photos Without question, orbs are the most commonly found anomaly in spirit photography, as well as on video. As all paranormal investigators and skeptics know, there are many natural elements that can appear to be orbs in photographs - Things such as dust, pollen and other airborne particles, rain, snow, moisture and even humidity. Rain and snow are simple to distinguish from orbs in photographs. Sorry folks, the ancient "real orbs have a bright outer nucleus" theory just isn't true! False
Possitives (Click on each thumbnail below for larger view)
The first photo shows an extreme case of dust. We feel that it is a great comparison photo, because it shows nearly every kind of false possitive orb there is. You will find faint, transparant orbs, bright, opaque orbs, colored orbs, orbs with a bright outer nucleus, and even orbs with facial features. High moisture and humidity conditions will produce very similar photos. The only real differences seem to be that, many times moisture orbs/droplets will be more clustered together than dust and many times moisture droplets don't really seem to have a bright outer nucleus like dust. In either case, dust and moisture can both appear to be bright/opaque orbs in photos as well. We feel that this is probably relative to how close the dust particle/moisture droplet/orb was to the camera at the time the flash went off. Example 2 shows an extreme case of moisture. It was deliberately taken on a very foggy night. As you can see, fog doesn'y always photograph as fog. Somehow cameras are able to show what fog truely consists of at times.... Moisture droplets! Please note that rain, snow and bug photos are not shown above for a couple of reasons - Rain and snow will usually appear to be in motion, leaving trails behind them. The trails will usually be above or below the "orbs" and even make them appear to be going up when they are really going down. As far as bugs are concerned, they just don't even resemble "orbs" in the least, so we see no need to post them here for comparison. If you would like to see an enormous amount of false possitive orb photos, caused by rain, snow, dust, moisture and other natural elements, definitely visit the OrbsByBeans Website! Please be sure and take a moment to send them an email and tell them how full O' poop (or beans?) they are! >8>) Pollen Pollen represents the haploid microgametophyte generation and is considered the male partner in sexual reproduction. In flowering plants pollen comprises either two or three haploid cells when shed from the flower. Both pollen types possess a large vegetative cell containing within, either a single compact generative cell (bicellular pollen) or sperm cell pair (tricellular pollen). Pollen shows considerable variation in size, shape and surface characteristics. Pollen grains vary in diameter from 5 µm in Myosotis to more than 200 µm in the Curcurbitaceae and round, elliptical and multifaceted pollen types occur. We have found that pollen comes in many different colors, depending on its type. We feel that pollen most likely accounts for all of the different "colored orb" photos collected by paranormal investigators. Taking into consideration that the examples below are microscopic magnifications and that average cameras only zoom in 2 - 4x it is hard to imagine that a camera could possibly magnify a nearly microscopic grain of pollen enough that it would even show up in a photo, let alone to the size of some of the larger ones we have collected. This is also taking into consideration that we NEVER use the zoom feature during investigations. We ALWAYS keep our lens widened all the way out. However, a single dust particle is nearly microscopic as well, yet look at the dust example above.

Orbs On Video We now have video evidence, which pretty much debunks orbs on video as well (the non-bug variety). We still have a few mixed feelings, but the evidence does clearly show that dust looks and behaves EXACTLY like what most paranormal investigators have always considered to be orbs. We will post this new evidence and continue this article when time permits. Until then, here are a few of our old "orbs" (bugs) on video clips: Example
Of "Orbs" Without Any Infrared Nightvision

Of "Orbs" With Infrared Nightvision

Of "Orbs" With Infrared SUPER Nightvision
Orbs Are Definitely Intelligent
Sometimes "orbs" appear to be more "ribbon - like" than round when super nighvision is used. Yet when a camera's flash reflects off of them they will appear to be round. The reason for this is, because super nightvision slows the frames down and makes the bug elongate. In the following example you will see an "orb" (bug) flying around, which has a ribbon - like appearance. Watch when the camera's flash reflects off of it. It will look round.
Here is a great example of how "orbs" (bugs) can sometimes appear to be more ribbon - like than round in appearance. Again, this is because the supper nightvision causes the frames to slow down and the bug becomes elongated.
Here are some still photos captured from the above video footage.
Here
is a crazy, far fetched idea I came up with a long time ago. I was
going to remove this, but I decided to leave it up for our visitor's
amusement! >8>) Could orbs possibly have a connection to the human spine, in relationship to the Hindu's beliefs of Kundalini? Definition: kun·da·li·ni [koon de leenee] - dormant energy: vital energy that Hindus believe lies dormant at the base of the spine until it is called into action, e.g. through yoga, to be used in seeking enlightenment [Late 19th century. < Sanskrit kundalini, literally "snake"; because likened to a coiled snake]
As you have seen, "orbs" seem to have a spiney type of an appearance sometimes. We find it interesting that the Hindus believe in a snake - like energy that rest as the base of the spine. Could there be some sort of connection? HIGHLY doubtful, but take a look at the comparisons below for the fun of it:
See the resemblance? The first example is a still image captured from the video clip that is shown in example 2 above. It was captured with super nightvision, which as previously mentioned, causes the frames to slow down. Wow, that theory sounded like something those flakey people on that Paranormal State show would come up with! >8>|
