Initially, I leaned quite a bit, about the same way most of us probably did - Online. I scowered the internet daily and absorbed every bit of information I could feast my eyes on. I learned a lot from the Shadowlands and Ghost Hound websites, among others. I was also fortunate enough to have met a couple of other great groups out there, who had quite a bit of experience - Ghost Tracker and Midnite Walkers, to name a couple of them. So, I hung out in chat rooms with them a lot, talking about ghosts till the wee hours of the morning, while I was buying/reading books, such as The Ghost Hunter's Bible and gathering equipment.
During this time I founded the Strange Happenings Ghost And Hauntings Research Society and put a website together to plaster all of our dust orb photos on LOL. Some groups outgrow this practice and some don't, as i'm sure most of you have discovered. I began picking up a new member here and there (they never lasted) and doing investigations. The SHGHRS now has a few vetern members that are even more hardcore into this stuff than I am able to be these days (they're ghost hunting junkies!). We've been to a lot of spooky places and have gotten many hours of good investigation in together.
What i've learned is, you can learn a lot on the internet and from books, but you have to be very careful what you believe of other investigators and authors (and especially psychics and paranormal TV shows). Many paranormal investigators are overly superstitious and will tell you things about the paranormal, as if they were proven facts when they clearly are not. In order to really learn, you have to get out in the field and get a bunch of investigations under your belt, so you can formulate your own beliefs and theories, based on your own evidence and experiences. How much honest to goodness, undeniable paranormal activity will you actually witness or experience? Unfortunately.... Not much (if any).... What will you truely learn about ghosts? Unfortunately.... Not a damn thing!
Yours In Strange Happenings,
