I told this story in the forum at the old website, but since it is a cute story, I will tell it again here.
A friend of mine used to come over to visit with her two sons. I had finally got a computer, which I had to set up in the bedroom for lack of any other place, and her little devils would flock to it, wanting to play with it. Of course I didn't allow that. But since I was usually working on graphics, they liked to watch me create images and would stand watching me while their mom and I talked.
One day, all of a sudden the older boy said that a picture in my bedroom had started glowing and he heard voices. When his mom and I looked at the picture, there was nothing unusual about it, and we hadn't heard anything. Mom got after her son about making things up, but I defended him.
This house is haunted, I told her, but I have never had anything physical happen. When I first moved in I couldn't sleep in the bedroom and I had to leave the TV on all the time just to get some sleep. The ghost was very hostile and I could feel the bad energy radiating from his unhappiness at me being in the house. But since then I had got some house plants, and after I started a garden we became buddies. He likes plants.
As for the voices, we asked the boy what they had been saying, but he said he didn't know, he didn't understand the words and they sounded funny.
That got me to wondering if there weren't some Russian ghosts around, since they had inundated the island in the early days. A grave of a Russian buried in a larch wood coffin had been found near the old church when they were putting in a paved road there. Someone actually found an old drawing of the area from the early days that even showed the grave with a marker that had disappeared since then.
One evening I was working on my computer and out of the corner of my eye I saw the picture the boy had pointed to glowing, just like he said it had. And then when I looked around, I realized the TV was turned so I could watch it when anything interesting was on and when it had a bright background it reflected off the picture! My TV was haunting my bedroom, LOL.
As for the voices, I realized that I had turned down the sound when my friend was visiting, and when the people in the show were talking loud it could barely be heard and it was hard to understand.
Later on I told my friend I had figured out who the ghost was, and she laughed when I told her the TV was the culprit.
The moral of the story is that kids are observant, and just because what they see doesn't make sense at first, it doesn't mean there isn't an explanation for what they see. The adults around them just have to pay more attention to what is going on.
The other moral of the story is that before you assume something is paranormal, eliminate the mundane possibilities that might cause a phenomenon. |

I read this story on the old forum. ;D
And I was curious then...how did you determine the ghost liked gardens? Or was it a coincidence? |
