One of the most disturbing incidents in my life occurred shortly before my Mom's death. She had been ill for about a year and it finally had sunk home to me that she was going to die. I had come home from visiting her in hospital and was feeling very low and very sad. I had been widowed some ten years before and had since remarried. My first husband was an avid raquetball player. We had a tiny Yorkie who loved my first husband and his raquetballs and would tirelessly chase and roll the balls with his nose. The Yorkie had come along with me to my new home. He was too old to play ball any more, so all his raquetballs & toys were stored in a basket under the TV. They had not been out of the basket in months. This is what happened:
It was about 11 pm. I was sitting at the game table in our great room, feeling very sorry for myself, worrying about my Mom. My new husband was asleep in our bedroom. Our Yorkie (now deaf and nearly blind) was sound asleep on his bed in the laundry room. The TV was on, I was sort of watching it and crying at the same time.
Then, I heard the sound of a raquetball being gently dropped on the floor, with a little bounce, to my right, across the room from the TV and in front of our fireplace. I turned toward the sound and saw a raquetball rolling slowly in my direction. It rolled very slowly and evenly in a large arc, around a post, around the game table, around my chair (I was sitting in a swivel game chair, so I turned to watch the ball) and slowly curved back to come to rest between my feet.
Needless to say, I was completely shocked and more than a little frightened. I quickly jumped up, turned off the TV and went to bed. I left the lights on, I was in such a hurry. I was afraid that I might be hallucinating even though I had never done so before! I didn't wake my husband, he doesn't believe in these things, and I was afraid he would think I had lost my mind!
The next morning, I found the raquetball exactly where I had left it. I have no idea how it had gotten out of the basket and clear across the room before I heard it drop in front of the fireplace, roll across the floor and end up where it did. I showed my husband the ball and told him my story. He said he had no reason not to believe me but he also had no idea how it happened.
I have an idea that 'someone' came by to let me know that I was not alone in my sorrow. Oh, I told my Mom about the ball rolling and she just rolled her eyes. She didn't believe in the supernatural. _________________ Been there, Done that, Bought the T-Shirt. |
