I was talking to a friend the other night who had been having really bad nightmares and feeling depressed. He asked me to look into the other world for him and see what was causing it. Because of the nature of his nightmares I thought his request was appropriate.
There was an eagle on his back, tearing at his neck and shoulders and this was really wrong, because eagles are usually guardians, not agents of harm. So I had to conclude that someone had taken their animal spirit form. I attacked the eagle and pinned it, but I couldn't get it to shift back and take it's human form, or to tell me why it was there. At some point it got away while I was trying different things to get rid of it. I am a novice about a lot of stuff in the other world and I am still learning how to deal with different situations, so experimentation has been a part of my learning process.
A medicine man showed up who was dressed in traditional dancer's clothing, and he wore a badger skin on his head. He shot the eagle with three darts and then pinned it to the earth. At that point I did something I have never done, I shifted into the shape of a badger. And then I charged the medicine man to see if he was really there to help, or a part of the problem.
I have to make a comment about being a badger. Their bodies are like bags filled with jello, and you don't really run in them, you kind of give the whole thing a kick start and then ride the wave, kind of like slapping a fat lady, (excuse the reference, but that is what it made me think of afterwards.)
The medicine man snatched me up and looked me in the eyes and said, "You have to dig a trench around it, counterclockwise." And then he turned me around and set me next to the pinned down eagle. He made me dig a trench that was so deep I nearly couldn't climb out of it when I took my human form again.
"Now we wait." The medicine man said.
Pretty soon the eagle took the form of a woman and I was able to talk to her. She had a lot of issues that had bound her to the earth and she had been dead for almost a year, so her time here was nearly up. I think that she might have had trouble crossing over, so that is why she was going after family members. It was like a backwards plea for help, making trouble so that in trying to help themselves they would find a way to get rid of her.
During this whole event there had been a beautiful spirit watching. She was tall, very tall, and made of light. She had been dressed in traditional woman's ceremonial clothing, but she had changed while the medicine man and I were dealing with the woman's spirit. She assumed the image of a christian madonna.
The woman's spirit ended up going to the shining madonna and leaving with her. I could see the spirit lands beyond them and knew the woman was going to find peace.
I found out after all this that the woman had been converted to Catholicism and the madonna had been her favorite spirit. So I guess that was a way to get her to go with the shinning lady.
When it was over, the medicine man left and my friend felt better. He said that he'd had pain in his neck and shoulders that had appeared suddenly a few days ago and that now it was gone. I hadn't known that when I told him about the eagle on his back.
It taught me something about badger medicine. A lot of people don't like them because they dig into graves and eat the dead, which is why a lot of people are buried in concrete if they can afford it. Indian people see the badger as a healer spirit, and what I have been told about badger is that it is fierceless and powerful, so it can go up against anything that causes sickness or harm. And because badger lives in the earth, it knows a lot about herbs.
But I learned something else from this experience, that badger knows how to free spirits that can become earthbound. So if someone has lived a bad life or been through a lot of terrible things that have left them with issues, then keeping their graves badger-proof is a mistake. Badger is a part of the natural system by which the earth cleanses itself spiritually so that unhappy spirits aren't trapped here. Badger undoes the ties that bind. |

Good story parlance but pardon me if I don't want a badger picking at me.... No seriously I want cremated. I don't want anything chewing at my remains... |

One time I was talking to a lady who was trying to figure out what to do with her remains after she was gone. She didn't want to go in the ground, and cave or scaffold burials aren't possible, and she didn't want her ashes scattered. I suggested she find a tree with a knot hole and have her remains cremated and sealed in the knot hole, since trees are natural pathways into the spirit world. She liked that idea.
Just recently I was talking with some people about how there are people bound and determined to cut down the last of the redwoods and make that last buck off of them. I thought they should be used for burials. People could even literally have a "family tree". Their ashes could be put in stainless steel cannisters and inserted into a hole bored in the tree and the whole remaining forest would be protected as a sanctuary for the dead. |

| That would be one seriously creepy forest. Whether anything was roaming it or not wouldn't matter to many. It'd be just like a graveyard, and people would definately "think" they saw something, no matter how spiritually safe trees are supposed to be. |

Parlance...that's a good idea but don't think they would let us do it.....good idea tho...I would love to end up helping nature progress...
Instead of taking up all the land with a bunch of tomb stones. How many cemetaries you see around???? Quite a few.....all those people buying vaults...let's put us all inside a concrete block surrounding that is supposed to be water, element tight..."WRONG" Those so called vaults and caskets aren't air tight..nope Also after death your body goes through a process and ends up being a lot of water then just dissolves into ashes when all is said and done...now why do you need that whole casket and vault thing to contain a little bit of ashes....?????? Senseless!!!!!!!!!
You guys do what you want to do ...but my body is being cremated and I'll just come back and let ya know how it is....And I don't care if some people say cremation is bad...I'd rather take my chances....who knows..you may wake up some night and see me standing beside you tellin ya ...'NO,,,NOO DON'T BE BURIED IN THE GROUND....IT'S BETTER TO BE CREMATED THEN YOU CAN COME BACK AND TELL EVERYONE ABOUT IT" Just my 2 cents |
