I'd like to ask how many members of this group are actually located in Pennsylvania? Where? Do you have regular meetings? Training or lectures that new students of the paranormal can attend?
I'm sure you more seasoned folks have been where I am right now - I'm hot on the topic, reading everything I can get my hands on, making lists of the "right" equipment to start looking for and pricing out as I learn, and developing my draft investigation and research checklists.
The biggest obstacle for me at present seems to be the equipment, which simply blows my mind. Lots of electromagnetic measurement, weather and moon activity that I never realized carried such impact.
Second biggest is finding people near me to talk to, exchange ideas with and learn with. Anyone near York, PA?
P.S. Aedryan, thanks for such a well-organized site; it's been very educational, and I appreciate the thoughts, theories and personal views of your members' various backgrounds. _________________ Karen |

The SHGHRS used to be based in Erie, PA, but I recently moved to Pittsburgh. The SHGHRS officially has zero members. Our group has been inactive for quite a few months now and I may or may not ever open up our membership again. I dunno.... I don't know if i'll ever even get back into ghost hunting again to be honest. Aside from the fact that i've grown extremely bored with it and it requiring so much time and work, so many things have been debunked that ghost hunting has pretty much became a complete waste of time.

We used to have regular meetings, back when we were still active and I do have a ghost hunter workshop, which all new members were required to attend....

Aside from the weather, none of that stuff seems to carry ANY impact actually. My advice to you (and everyone else for that matter) is to focus primarily on capturing/studying/experimenting with EVP's. Pretty much everything else can be explained! You might also consider dabbling in ITC (Instrumental Transcommunication) a bit. I haven't personally tried ITC yet, but I know people who swear by it. Don't waste your time and money on EMF meters, digital thermometers, giger counters and all that crap. There are ALWAYS reasonable explanations for the "strange" fluctuations people get with them! The same pretty much goes for cameras and video recorders too, unfortunately. Save your money and buy a nice digital voice recorder for capturing EVP's.

I'm glad it has been helpful to you. The site needs a lot of updating though. I have to go back through some of our investigation reports one of these days and let people know that a lot of the anamolies have been debunked....

So where's this workshop...please say there's a taped version I can watch from my pc....
I've pretty much decided that photo and video of the paranormal is a lot like photo or video in my genealogy hobby - everyone wants to see the pictures, but it's the "proof" on paper they really buy. So I'll keep pricing equipment, but instead of going top o' the line, I'll wait for a decent sale or clearance price on a 10+megapixel digital camera, and a digicamcorder as well - things I would want for my genealogy anyway, so two birds, etc.
I think I'm a lot more intrigued at the moment with EVPs anyway, and if ITC is what it sounds like, then that's probably an additional direction I'd like to gravitate toward...I'll be looking this up and getting the skinny on it tomorrow.
As for Pittsburgh, that's only about an hour-ish from whre I'm at in York, right? Let's see a show of hands from everyone who falls in the middle there, or might be willing to pursue points of study in that vicinity. I bet if we look, we can find someplace to do some EVP work, and discuss ITC some too...anyone game?
C'mon you guys...don't be so shy...surely you're not afraid of a live person you don't know any more than you are of a ghost you don't know? _________________ Karen |

Aside from requiring members to attend before they join, "this workshop" is something I charge people money to attend when I do them on occassion and i'll usually include a guided ghost hunt following the workshop. For instance; a couple of years ago I was performing at a haunted house attraction in New Jersey, three nights a week, throughout the whole month of October and my client paid me X amount of dollars extra to include my workshop and a guided ghost hunt after my show two of the nights per week.

Wise decision! Be sure to keep your eyes open for a NICE external flash too! That is a must! Aside from day time photos, reflective surfaces and slow shutters, I would say that dark, pixelated photos from low quality/low megapixel cameras with crumby flashes are the #1 cause of false positive ghostly faces and apparitions....
