this was one of my favorite old posts:
Lots of people have various ideas on what the orbs that show up in photographs and some people can see are. Some believe (aside from them being fake) that they are actually spirits. Others believe they are balls of energy that spirits collect to sustain themselves but i put forward another hypothesis. What if these orbs are organs of the spirit. Not just of the deceased and non-human spirits but also of ourselves. Perhaps we have many of these inside us and they can function semi-independantly. This may sound strange but remember the white blood cells in our body move and function independantly of us and perform their jobs independantly of any other units. So might it be with the parts of our spirit that may leave us or be lost from time to time. Among some native american peoples for instance there is a tradition of "calling back" ones spirit through life endagerment after it has been "lost" or misplaced. This may explain the ability to see places that are far away, or the fact that ghosts of the same person are seen in different places. My belief on this issue often leads me to believe that few people or not all people maintain spiritual integrity at death and may "split" into their components or associated groups of components which may be orbs or apparitions or both at various times. The ancient chinese for instance believed the soul split into many forms and people spent their whole adult lives medititating on an indestructable spirit so this wouldnt be their fate. The ancient egyptians also believed something similar with the souls going to different afterlives. Any thoughts? |

| yeah, it makes sense doesn't it? I am always a little confused as to what orbs are. I used to think they were just photographic anomalies... |

Shikakubu,
There are really 2 different topics for discussion here, what orbs are and what happens to us after we die. From my experience orbs are ghosts (for the lack of a better word) that can be interacted with and show intelligence. "Physically" they expand and contract, cycle energy, and can communicate. The can be measured with physical instruments and tracked with enhanced optical devices.
The other topic I would like to touch on is their psychology (mental disposition). It seems that some we interact with are fully conscious of their surroundings and quite aware of who and what they are. Others seem to be confused or in a "dream" state, not fully in control of their faculties or aware of what they are. They react to things instinctively and can be very irrational. I have run into both types many times!
Keep in mind, this is my take on things and shouldn't be thought as of the truth (that is until I can prove it). 8)
I'm not taking into account residual hauntings because, in my opinion there is nothing there to interact with, although they are fun to watch. I am meerly commenting on the intelligent hauntings I have encountered. _________________ Frank Ratka

On the coherant side: I have been in a house where the entity responded to every question we asked with his own unique voice. He had told us to shut up and spoke with other entities in the same house. We caught on voice recorder an entity telling another entity, "Here they come lets go!" This was when we were heading back into the "hotzone" of this particular house.
Incoherant: We have encountered an entity that seemed "drunk" or in a stupor. On video it looked like a humanoid shadow moving through the room (it blocked out furniture behind it and furniture in front of it blocked it out). It would not respond to us very easily. It would yell or not recognize certain people even though we had been there many times. People that were in the room when the shadow moved through seemed to be invisible to it even though it recognized my camera and moved it's "arm" in front of the lense, as if checking if it could see itself. It's voice only responded to male voices (even though this could be it's preference I don't think so) in a harsh or confusing manner. It would speak of things with subjects that ran together. It would speak about one of our cars and a beautiful cedar tree in the same sentance for example.
Even though this doesn't really prove anything, it was the feeling we got from hearing it's voice and seeing how it interacted. It seemed to move in and out of consciousness.... _________________ Frank Ratka

| i was hoping more for observations on orb state directly but thats very interesring. Youre right there is certainly no evidence a spirit is perfect and indestructable as dogma would have us believe. Yes there could be two topics to discuss but i dont necessarily think orbs are exclusive to the formerly living, as i have no proof of it. |

| Frank what you posted makes a lot of sense...I just hope that somehow we eventually can figure out why? That would be really cool....I wonder why orbs aren't visible to the naked eye but are picked up with video recorders and cameras? |

Simple Beck, they reflect IR (infrared) and absorb visible light. With no reflected visible light they are not visible to the naked eye. I have heard people talk about "black orbs", do they exists? I don't know never seen one but I am willing to bet they do and they are most often seen in low light conditions.
With digital cameras and modern xenon flashes, it is a little different story that deals with photons and particle physics. If you want I can get into it but it is a little involved, even in it's simplified form. _________________ Frank Ratka
