My mothers passing.

In the June of 2001 my mother had had a rather bad stroke. I was called to come and be with the family as it was believed that she would be unable to recover from this episode. I traveled by bus from Jamestown ND to Smelterville ID. I arrived early on a Monday morning was picked up by my sister Doris, from where we traveled to the hospital where my Mother was. Tears filled my eyes as I seen how my mother was on a ventilator and had wires running everywhere from her. SHe was still awake and could answer us by blinking Twice for Yes Once for No. I spent most of the morning with her reading to her and just telling of how things were going for myself and my family. It was later on that day when my sister asked to speak to me and showed me Mama's Living Will. My heart sank even though I knew of this document. When the rest of the family showed up the five of us sat down and discussed this document and decided to bring it to Mama and ask her if this is what she wished. Tuesday we all were in the room with Mama and asked her if these were her wishes, She blinked twice and a tear rolled down her face. She had often stated she never wanted to be on life support and at this time she was.
The Doctor pulled all of us to the side and spoke to us about Mama's condition, not only had she lost the ability to use her body and breathing functions but also she had developed phnuemonia which he said would be a painful slow death no matter what they do. At this time we told the Doctor of Mama's wishes. He then went to Mama's room and asked her if this was what she wished--- SHe looked at him and Blinked Hard Twice -- even with the tube in her mouth she looked at us and smiled big as ever knowing we all heart broken you could see the strenght in her eyes without a word spoken she looked at each one of us and basicly said I love you with her eyes.
Wednsday June 13 2001 Mama's 70th birthday at about 8:30 am we all gathered around our Mother and said our good byes. My sister Dirae asked Mama if Bill was there---- She looked in the corner of the room and smiled and blinked twice then looked back at us. You see Bill was her sweetheart when she was a teenager and even though they made seperate lives in the early 80s the found each other again then when they finally discussed marriage in the mid 90s Bill passed away. He waited all his life for her and when life was about to be over for my Mother he was there to lead her to glory.
At 9:03 am while my brothers and i held our mothers hand she passed away after the order for lifesupport to be lifted was given. I felt saddened that my Mother was no longer living but then rejoiced in the thought that she was with her life long love and her Savior.

The next few days everyone was in a gloomy sort of state when we began going through a few of our mothers things. My sisters Doris and Dirae were sitting on the couch with me as we went through some papers and some old photos. then as we started talking of the good times my one sister said she felt as if she were being wrapped in a blanket of warm th and hugs, my other sister smelled home baked bread and as for me I could smell Lilac perfume which my mother wore. She had come back to let us know she was ok and that she would be checking on us from time to time. Even now my mother is with me in the good and bad times. she was with me at my wedding to my wife, she was with me when I was in the ER after the car hit me and she is with when ever this man needs his Mama. With out a doubt Im a Mama's Boy and proud of it. Without my mother I would have not learned the compasion and tenderness that I show others in everyday life.
