| I always wondered why people always look at the reason for ghost's existence through the screen of the laws of the universe. A few months ago, I ran into an article where a London scientist said ghosts absolutely could not exist because the laws of physics prevent them from existing. He said that everything that people claim ghosts can do isn't possible because the laws of physics prevent it, and different claims contradict themselves (Can't walk through walls because of the laws, and even if they could, then it contradicts people who say ghosts have picked up things, or shown some sign of pressure on an object). Why is it that scientists say ghosts have to abide by the same laws all other bodies do? |

| Unfortunately, no. I remember reading it through Yahoo! News around Halloween, the whole reason they even wrote the article. |

Good topic. Didn't read that link just yet ... just responding to the general subject:
The problem w this argument against ghosts starts with the fact that even the most intelligent & open-minded scientist lives inside the very petri dish he or she studies under a microscope. I don’t mean to limit my analogy just to a biologist or the like. …
Scientists strive to achieve objectivity about the laws of the Universe. Ironically, the observed “truth” is burdened by limitations of human perspective. Humans will likely find it difficult or impossible to fully understand the Universe as long as we are part and parcel of the Universe we study.
Many scientists are myopic. They think a phenomenon can only exist if it fits elegantly into a pre-conceived human interpretation of nature and it’s perceived workings.
The second fatal flaw in the argument of science negating ghosts, is: Science is a fluid study. Truth depends on testing and measurements and verifications of objective findings. But it also speaks to trial by error.
Many great discoveries have turned out to be misunderstandings, mistakes, even after years of so-called “truths” being upheld as valid. Any scientist worth their weight in salt understands that observations can and will turn out to be wrong … which means our discoveries are not immune to being pulled (rudely) asunder.
In the same vein, the thoughtful scientist knows ghosts, gouls, demons, you name it … all those things admittedly could exist. Even if it doesn’t look likely or there’s no proven evidence for it. Simply put, it could be that science is behind in discovering the existence of such things.
One of the most necessary and humbling things a conscientious scientist can do is admit that science doesn’t know everything about the Universe and that it is a field in progress … and that against seemingly steep odds, many things are possible.
For me, I question whether “ghostly” activity is a product of ghosts, but who am I to say they absolutely don’t or can’t exist. Or that they don't or can't exist in a manner that runs counter to known physical laws? |
