I moved into the home 3 months ago with my wife and kids. From the very beginning I would alsways hear strange noises in the night. The first thing I heard sounded like animals walking up the steps in the house.
Initially it sounded its loudest through the vents of the rooms on the second floor of home.Usually the foootsteps are preceeded by a large banging sound. As far as the doorknobs turning, it occurs throughout the house on any door that is shut. For example ,while sleeping I am awakened by the turning of the doorknob
in the room I sleep in. This is immediately followed by one large knock on the door. Obviously when I open the door ,no one is their. I am afraid this is just the beginning as I fear the ghost may be getting additional energy from the occupants in the home. My wife does not like the home as it is a 100 year old Victorian. So far the only thing we have heard so far is the door knobs turning , the large bangs in the middle of the night, footsteps and knocks on the door. One other thing very peculiar is that in each room their is a button to push a bell that registers in the kitchen downstairs by telling you what room is pushing the bell. The home must of had servants sometime in the past but not sure when.Once a week the room notification will change in the kitchen without even pushing the bell in any of the rooms. I hope this helps you a little more.Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Thanks, Brian.... All I can really say is, start by doing some investigating and try to exhaust every reasonable explanation possible before ya jump to conclusions.
Here are a few questions that first come to mind:
- Do you have any pets or children in the house that could be responsible for the footsteps/door knobs turning/banging sounds?
- Are you certain that wild animals (raccoons, possums, rats, etc) couldn't be getting into your house?
- Do the footsteps actually seem to get closer and/or further away when you hear them or do they seem to stay in the same spot?
- Do you hear the footsteps in different areas of the house or are they always in the same spot?
- Have you made sure that your plumbing doesn't rattle in the floors/walls?
- Have you made sure that your heating/cooling vents couldn't be rattling when the heat/air conditioning is on?
- Does your house have a basement or just a foundation?
Thanks again for sharing!

Aedryan,thanks for the response.
I will attempt to answer some of the questions.
Yes I have do have a pet however everytime I hear the footsteps I go the spot, see nothing then check on my pet.He is always asleep. The footsteps are usually nearby me.For example I was relaxing on my couch, lights out and I heard them approachinh. When I rose nothing was their. No one in the house is responsible for the doorknobs because it always happens when everyone is asleep and awakened by the rattling of the doors. Just last night I heard the door rattle, got up to go to it then heard a loud knock on it. As I opened it no one was their and the remainder of the family was sleeping. And yes the house does have an old damp basement which nothing is stored in.In reading through the site I am now afraid our fears will only allow this ghost to gain more energy and start to increase the amount of pranks r even intensify what is happening.Your thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

Hey,
I don't think you have anything to worry about the whole idea of a ghost gaining more energy from your fears i think is a bit unlikely!!I don’t think a sprit can harm you physically; I do however think they can harm you spiritualty, being able to be at peace with yourself ect.
I think your best option is to follow Aedryans advice and do some research on the place see what you can find out, take some photo’s and/or EVP’s and see if what you are experiencing is really a ghost and not something simple as faulty plumbing or worst a RAT!!! Sorry but I just found out that my girlfriend had one in her house and all this time she thought she has something spooky going on……LOL…(yeah a RAT on steroids)

| Thanks for the suggestions. I can certaintly see the noises in the walls being a squirell or something similar as I do have alot on the property. Can anyone explain why they would only be active at night and not during the day?I still can't explin the doorknob turning as that continues daily throughout the house. Can I ask what is EVP?I am definitely looking into the History of the house, hopefully that will shed light on this whole situation |

Hey,
Well like any normal pain in the ass.....most small annoying animals come out at night for food, and if thats is the case and you have alot of small wildlife around you then i would asumme the noises you are hearing are them. As for the door nob's turning.....your guess is as good as mine, i would therfore keep investigating the house. A EVP is a recording of ghostly voices, you can obtain these by using something as simple as a digital vioce reorder (see Aedryan for details on those). If you look though some of the previous posts you will see that Aedryan has some tips on how to use them too.
I hope that helps a bit...

Hi Brian,
That's really wierd about the door knobs turning and the knocking. I really don't know what to say other than just exhaust all reasonable explanations.
Here are a few more questions that come to mind:
- Have you checked to make sure there isn't any sort of mining being done anywhere near your area?
- Earthquakes?
- Do you live near an airport or train tracks?
- Do airplanes or helicopters ever fly low over your house?
- Is there any construction going on near your house with heavy equipment, etc?
- Are you positive that your wife and/or kids aren't playing tricks on ya?
If you're absolutely certain that your dorrs are rattling and your door knobs are turning and you're sure it couldn't be any of those things, i'd say you might have something. But definitely keep investigating.
In regards to recording audio, here ya go:
EVP Tutorial
If this stuff is happening on a regular basis, I would HIGHLY recommend setting up as many video recorders as you can get your hands on. Start setting them up in the areas where it keeps happening and start recording around the times it usually starts. Keep detailed notes with the times these things happen, when they happen, how long it lasts, etc!
If you're able to capture this stuff on video, I would be extremely interested in seeing it!
