Hello i Live right here in Erie, Pa. I have lived in the apartment i am in for a little while now, and there have been some really odd occurences to say the least. When my daughter was still in her crib i would look in on her and on more than just a few occasions the side of the crib would be down, something that would hae been impossible for her to do. There were many times that she would walk from the living room to her room down a very short hallway and the door, that she could not reach the doorknob of, would open and she would go int he room and begin to laugh and to giggle and jabber as though someone were there. She would also do this very often when playing alone in her room.
However, the most disturbing thing to happen in the house was the time that I was sitting in our computer room looking at my email. It was about 9:30 pm and i happened to feel a really cold chill and the hair on the back of my neck stood straight up.
I never turned around but looked into my monitor and i could see the reflection of a woman right behind me, almost featureless, older with shorter hair. I became somewhat panicked because... well it freaked me out. I still did not turn around as the woman had not moved but she was standing in the closet of the room.
Tenitavley i said "kari?", this is the name of my wife, the woman smiled, then started to walk out the door of the room.
As she moved i closed my eyes trying to convince myself that i was not seeing what i was seeing. The woman left the room and i saw her turn to the right and head for my daughters room. A second or two later I hear the all too familiar giggle of the baby that she gives off when she see's someone. I quickly got up and ran too her room to see the woman still there and vanish around the corner into the closet of my daughters room.
I kissed my daughter goodnight, checked the closet again to be sure and went to bed thinking i must really be tired.
As I lay there I said out loud to myself that I must be crazy there is no such things as ghosts. As god as my witness no sooner did I say that then the light in the hallway started to flicker and the baby began to scream and for half a second I thought no way in hell am I going in there but of course that was only half a second and I ran to the babies room and snatched her from her crib and we slept in the living room that night on the couch.
Things have gotten quieter around here but I honestly think I am going crazy. My wife thinks its all fooey because she is too afraid to think it is real and has told me so. She works nights and has never really experienced any f this except the occasional crib side being down whish she blamed on me but I have a feeling there are other things to blame. Tell me what you think.

Hi Soldier,
Thanks for sharing your story with us. I am assuming that you are the one that called me a little while ago, eh? My apologies for being so short with you on the phone, but I get A LOT of calls from people wanting to tell us their ghost stories (as well as prank calls) and I don't even have a phone number mentioned as a means of contacting the SHGHRS. That's why I have the following on our contact page:
| Quote: |
If you have a general ghost or paranormal related question or a story you would like to share or get feedback on, you will get the quickest response by posting your stories and questions in our Ghost Forums under an appropriate topic.
|
Anyway, now that you think i'm a dick, welcome to the forum! It's always good to have another homeboy amongst us! I just moved to Pittsburgh from Erie back in March.
In regards to your story, here are a few questions that first come to mind:
- Have you exhausted all reasonable explanations for the gate on your crib being down or your daughter getting out of her room?
- Are you absolutely certain that the gate isn't broken and that it's locked in place?
- Are you sure there is no way your daughter could possibly get it down?
- As for her getting out of her bedroom, are you positive that she isn't standing on something and opening the door?
- Prior to these events, have you ever had any other "ghostly" experiences in your life?
- Prior to these events, have you ever felt that you possess the ability to see/hear/feel/sense spirit presence?
Thanks again for sharing!

Hau,
Usually you can find natural causes for everything. It doesnt meen it diddnt happen to you or that are answer was right,, this is just what we do .
I have seen spirits, (I am Native American), it doesnt change anything, you still have to be sure. |

This is why I rarely respond to ghost stories people send via email or ghost stories that new forum members post. We go through all the time and trouble of responding and trying to help them and they are never seen or heard from again. Especially when you don't just tell them what they wanna hear.... _________________

Thanks aedryan,
you are right,, people are scared of there self, and want you to verify, or believe it also.
I will allways try to comfort anyone who needs help. Even if it is house that settles, or plumbing that needs work or my favorit ,, faulty electric.
My job as an electrician or (my native job as a spirit helper) are the same we come when they call,, only ask questions that will help. and never make them feel bad, they pay the bills. |

Humm.....another day at the salt mines hey Aedryan!
Some people just can't take the questions and reasonable answers given they only wanna believe that it's paranormal and that there is no logical explanation for it...

I just wanted to say that first of all i think no one is a Dick Head. Second the apartment building that I live in is having the siding redone so i was not intentionally not responding.
To answer the questions posed to me by Aedryan
#1 #2 #3
I am pretty sure that I have checked every way that is possible that the crib side may have come down. It is a double latched spring lock that needs to be unlocked from both ends of the crib at the same time. I am 5'10" and I have a hard time o reach both sides at the same time so the baby could not have. The latches also do not work independently it will not unlock unless both are engaged at the same time, one of the new crib features. And lastly i tested it once to see if the baby could even hold that much weight and she wasn't able to when she tried to let the side down after i unlocked it it slammed down very hard making a very loud bang. Every time that I found the Gate down there was never the tell tale bang that would have been there if the baby had somehow gotten the gate unlocked.

Is the baby standing on something to get out of the room. No she is actually getting into the room when the door is closed not out of it and there is nothing in the hallway for her to stand on to get the door open. She was also unable to walk or stand well at the time of these instances so the likely hood that she was opening it is nearly zilch, I don't even think standing she could have reached the handle.

As far as having any other experiences, only one repeated one when i was a teenager.
It was a series of two things actually. At times i would wake up and have the feeling that someone was watching me and I would see the shadow of people on the walls. I have researched this and have come tot he personal conclusion that this may be known as Shadow people. I read up on it and that is the closest explanation I have for it or maybe that my imagination was just over active at 17 who knows.
The other is on 3 occasions as a teenager I had a very real and terrifying thing happen. I was laying in bed reading and all of a sudden I would go limp. I could not move I could not yell no matter how hard I tried. And I had the blood chilling feeling that something was about to "Get Me". As I read up on this I learned of something called Night Terrors that occur to extremely tired people, the are like a sleeping halucination happening very soon after you fall asleep. that is what I think this is.
there are times in my everyday life here that I feel as though I am in the presence of someone or something. To be completely truthful the story that I told I am positive that I would not believe it if someone else had told me. I am not a Strong believer int he paranormal I like to believe that if I can not see taste touch or hear it must not be real, I am a realist so to speak. I do not know, on the other hand, how to explain what I have experienced here at this apartment building.
To the man that asked abotu the elctrical I will look into it, this is a very old building and I am sure maybe that might have been a coincidence.
Again with my internet out I am sorry that I did not respond earlier. |

Hi Soldier,
Thanks for your reply! I guess I was a bit hasty. You wouldn't believe how many times over the years people have posted stories here and asked advice, only to never be seen or heard from again....

Actually, what you experienced here is a sleeping disorder known as "Sleep Paralysis", which was once known as "The Old Hag Syndrome". If you search those terms here in the forum and on your favorite search engine, you will find tons of information about it.
In regards to the gate on your crib coming down and your baby jibber-jabbering/giggling in her room and her not being able to open her door by herself, etc.... All I can say is just make absolutely certain that there aren't any other possible explanations before ya jump to conclusions. For instance:
- Babies do tend to jibber-jabber and giggle a lot....
- Are you positive that the door was shut all the way the times that she got into her bedroom by herself?
- Are you positive that there aren't certain times of the year when the door won't close properly, because of moisture/humidity/house settling, etc?
- Are you 100% certain that she wouldn't have been able to open the door at that time?
Could you please give us some more details about the time you saw the reflection of an old woman on your PC monitor?
- Did you see her appear or was she just there when you first noticed her?
- Did she move or gesture or anything?
- Did she seem to acknowledge or react to your presence?
- How was she dressed?
- Did she seem to be in color or in black & white?
- How long did you see her?
- Did you see her vanish/disappear?
Sorry for bombarding you with so many questions, man. Every little detail is very important though.

well first of I would like to thanks you for the info on sleep paralysis I am going to look this into this that might explain those terrifying instances.
I am absolutely 100% sure my daughter could not open that door. After the first time it happened I didn't think much of it but after the second and third times I actually must admit I started to get frustrated even a little angry. So then I would Check and recheck the door even changed the doorknob to a new one and it still persisted i would close the door and lean into it to make sure it wouldn't open and weighing 300 pounds it never popped open on accident so I know a 20lbs child could not have done it on accident. I do agree with the baby jibber-jabbering thought all babies do tend to do that.
And I do not mind all the questions I actually like that you are asking questions it means that at the least I have peekd your interest.
OK as far as the woman's reflection in my monitor.
I had a creepy feeling that seemed to just leech into my spine I don't know how to explain it, I actually started to get anxious, jittery I guess. this uneasy feeling would not go away and the event is as follows.
I pushed my chair away from my desk, and was kinda half looking at my monitor when the hair on the back of my neck stood straight up. I saw the reflection of my computer rooms closet right behind me and a woman walked out of it hands folded in front of her. wearing a very plain outfit sweater over a shirt but seemed very faded like the color had been worn out of it, and a long light colored skirt. Didi not see her feet but not because they weren't there more because the way the monitor was you couldn't see the floor.
I remember specifically looking at her face and saying my wife's name "Kari?" knowing my wife was not there at the time. But what other woman would be in that closet?
When I looked ant the womans face i can not remember an sort of features that were clearly defined except when I asked if it was Kari, The Woman smiled and turned and moved out of the room and did so looking at me the entire time. The woman disappeared around the corner in my living room and I sat there stunned and When my daughter started to giggle and laugh I ran to her room. I saw the woman again back to and she stepped to her left into the closet of my daughters room, when I looked she was gone.
The entire time she never spoke and made very little noise but there was some noise like a person walking on a hardwood floor only my apartment is carpeted but i do know the apartments downstairs used to have hardwood floors maybe this apartment did too
hope this helps

Eeks! That's definitely creepy stuff!
So, after you initially saw the woman's reflection, you turned around and watched her with your own eyes or were ya watching her reflection in your monitor the whole time?
There is one last important question I need to ask you and please don't take it the wrong way or get mad or anything. Please do answer honestly though.... Have you ever been diagnosed with any sort of mental illness, such as Bipolar Disorder, Depression/Manic Depression, Schizophrenia or Schizotypal Personality Disorder? If not, do you think you could have any of the symptoms that are associated with any of those conditions?
Here is a website that will give you some info on each of them:
Adult Symptoms of Various Mental Health Disorders
Again, please don't take this question the wrong way.
