APRN was soliciting stories and ideas for their programs and they asked for Alaskan ghost stories for the Halloween show. I wrote to them and submitted some of my experiences here on the island, as well as some of the stories shared with me by other residents. They want to do an interview with me and if it has audience appeal they will air the interview this Halloween.
I would say, wish me luck, but it's not a big deal. My stories about the ghosts I have seen here on the island aren't scarey or dramatic. The only thing interesting about them is that they are about ghosts. So it might turn out to be a waste of time for the radio host and me. |

Break a leg! Next stop Hollywood! J/J Don't let them turn it into a skeptics corner, where they shred you on your beliefs and stuff like that! I hate the media with a passion, all media! _________________ Frank Ratka

If it turns into a skeptics corner thing, I will just tell them to find some other sacrifice for the holiday. I hate people who tell me to believe what they tell me to believe and not my own eyes.
The most impressive ghost I have ever seen was a full body apparition so detailed it was unbelievable. I just wish we could get a team with all of the fancy equipment out here to get evidence of her existance. I would bet dollars to doughnuts that there is a historical photo somewhere that would match up with her image. It would just be a matter of distributing her image to the college history departments and societies and see who has her in their collection. |

Well, the interview went well and the host is anxious to have it air as a part of the Halloween broadcast. She was kind of funny, at least to me. Like she asked me, "Why do you think these ghosts haunt the island?" My answer was, "I dunno, because they don't know when to leave?"
(Yeah, I am a regular Freud of the paranormal:
"So tell me, when did you first realize you were experiencing post mortem anxiety? Do you think it could be related to your mother's death? Did she also have issues about being a ghost?")
The host also came out with, "Then if people come to visit your island they can expect to see ghosts every where?"
My answer was: "No-o-o, you pretty much have to be in the right place at the right time to see a ghost. It's not like they go down to the dock and wait for the ferry to come in so they can greet the visitors. A lot of people will come here and never see a ghost because they just aren't in the right place at the right time."
When I was talking to some of the other locals about the interview, one guy said, "Hell, most of the time people who are alive don't know why they are here, why should it be any different when you are dead?"
He has a point. |
