|

Hello all,
I've been wondering what kind of side effects might be possible from ghost hunting. To me it seems that at least SOME psychological damage is not only possible, but very likely.
I know that since I started ghost hunting I have became a lot more jumpy at night time. I see and hear things and I get the creeps in my house a lot at night. A lot of little subtle things have happened in my house, as well as a couple of "not so subtle" things ever since I got into ghost hunting. There have been a times after maybe two of our investigations, where I could have SWORE something was hanging around my house for awhile afterwards. I would constantly see things moving out of the corners of my eyes and at times I would feel as though something walked up behind me and even think I saw its shadow cast upon my desk in front of me. If there was indeed something here that time, it seemed to hang around for about 2 months or so. One night, I was out on my patio about 3:00 AM and when I turned around to come into the house, I CLEARLY saw a ghostly white figure. It seemed to have a tall human-like form at first (probably over 6' tall)and it was as though it was standing behind me, observing me and as soon as I turned around it swooped up into the air in an "S" type fashion and vanished. The whole thing lasted maybe 3 seconds or so and it was in my direct line of vision. This is one of the few things I have ever experienced that was so obvious that I just can't deny that it happened! I have seen orbs with the naked eye, in my direct line of vision on at least 2 occassions in my house and I have blatantly heard voices on two occassions. One of the times I was sitting here at my desk and I heard a woman plain as day say, "You're Sick!". The other time, I had just laid down to go to sleep and plain as day, I heard a man's voice say, "BOO!" real loud right in my ear!
So, I suppose it could be that not ALL of these things are just my imagination at night, but before I got into ghost hunting I just either never noticed any of these things or I just disregarded them. OR is it that since I learned about the subtlties of ghosts, I have became more aware of these things and "in tune" with them? We have captured some pretty spooky photos, video and evp's too and it never seizes to amaze me about what seems to be out there in the darkness with us sometimes. So, could it be that i'm just a little paranoid, wondering "what" could have possibly followed me home or do "things" actually follow us home on occassion?
It could be a combination of all these things I suppose, but I don't see how ghost hunting couldn't make us all a bit paranoid. Just being "in the know" (or at least thinking we are) alone is a little unsettling.
What do you guys think?
Yours In Strange Happenings,

I think it's possible. I mean, I've never been on a hunt, but if you know enough about spirits, and have captured some orbs in your own home and you KNOW that there's definately something there, it could mess around with you a little.
Knowing your place is haunted, and gettning some evidence on that, could it also make you feel like your spending the night at a hunt, but in your own home? |

I know what you mean Aedryan! I don't know what you mean by psychological effects though(negative?/positive?). I link we are just noticing more because we know what to look for now. Before, when we were all unaware of the extent of just how many ghosts are arouind us we had the "ignorance is bliss" mindset. Now that a lot of us, as investigators have seen and felt these presences on a regular basis we have learned to recognize the signs regularly.
I have a for instance: I was staying at our family ranch near Brenham, TX visiting a neigbor in a 100+ year old house. As soon as I walked in I felt the presence, that extra "thickness" you feel in the atmosphere. After talking for a few minutes I asked them how long they had been haunted. They both got wide-eyed and looked at each other.... Then Lynn asked me if I was some kind of psychic after explaining what they were experiencing and how often? I told her, "no, I just recognize the feeling of an 'occupied' space". I then went on a long story of what I do as a hobby and gave them a block of instruction how to cope with it. Now, whenever I go up there they give me regular reports of the newest activity.
I am by no means psychic, sensitive or anything close to that, as I have said many times, but I do recognize from shear experience when a structure is occupied just by the feeling of the atmosphere. This all comes from injecting myself in these situations over and over again. I believe whole-heartedly that this is what Aedryan is talking about. Am I affected psychologically? Of course, but I don't consider it a bad thing. _________________ Frank Ratka

| I don't go on investigations but I can relate to what you all are saying. Being around activity through the years can make you more in tune with it. It may be that because we have been around it so many years we know what the feeling feels like. For instance, I can also walk into a home that is totally normal and feel nothing...where as if I walk into a home that has a haunting or has had a haunting I immediately know it just by either pulling in the driveway or walking across the threshold...Am I sensitive or psychic "Nope" I don't feel that I am..Am I in tune with the paranormal? "You betcha" Can I explain why? "Nope" it's just there. As far as psycological damage from being around the paranormal..I don't think that it would be the right definition...just because we get the weird vibes or know something is there doesn't mean that it's affecting our minds ...I think that we are just more in tune with the paranormal than the average person because we have been around it. |

Me and my husband do investigate the paranormal but only after we had some crazy experiences in our own home. We too know that we have more than one spirit here and I can tell the difference in the way I feel physically if it is one in paticular. I do think it effects us. I hate being in my house at night when everyone is asleep. Getting EVP's in your own home really freaks me out. None of them was negative its just the fact that who is watching me when Im unaware. And I also agree that since we know it exsists we are more intune to their presence. Also another thought. Are we more aware because the longer we cohabitate with them the more energy they gain so we feel their presence even more? Just a thought. _________________ Founder

Hi Shay,
Yes we all feel drained of energy. Part of that is because of the activity in the middle of the night that will interupt our sleep. Nothing like being rudely awakend to your smoke detectors going off at 3am. LOL. Makes for a rough go of the morning. |

I can imagine Ghostlymom...3 a.m. tends to be a very active part of the paranormal..I often wondered why? I've never had my smoke detectors go off that would be enough to make me really mad.... |

| The 3am hour. This is the theory behind 3am. God was cruxified at 3pm so this is the holy hour. 3am is the complete opposite of that so therefore it is the hour of Satan. All that being said. I don't believe I have demons or unholy beings in my house. But between 3am and 6am is the time when we experience the most activity. I think maybe it has something to do with the atmosphere or humidity levels at that time. Also we are more aware of our surrondings at 3am when all is calm and quiet. It still is an intresting question because all I have learned is that spirits have no sense of time, so why are they so active at night? Any thoughts about this one out there? |

| I think that the hauntings seem to change from entitiy to entity and the time that they become more active will vary. The entities in my house don't have a certain time that they become active. |

3 a.m. ??? well when it's 4:00 a.m. here in Pa it's 3 a.m. in the central part of the U.S. etc,.. so if entities have no sense of time how is it that people experience paranormal activity at these times...I do know that since I was young that my body responds to the 3 o'clock alarm..for some reason that is when things happen to me that are paranormal...and even if there is no paranormal activity for the night it seems that my body is on the clock...I wake up at 3 a.m. or shortly after every night regardless of what is happening at the time......I've kept a log for many years and I always write this in....So why do you think that I wake at that time? I eventually fall back asleep but at 3 a.m. I'm wide awake and let me tell you I'm a deep sleeper...My kids and hubby make fun of me if I fall asleep on the couch..because getting me to point A to point B meaning from the couch to bed is pretty funny they say....they wake me up on the couch and they say I come out swinging and I'm really grouchy or right away I want something to eat but when I wake at 3 a.m. I wake up wide awake and it takes a while to go back to sleep...hmmm wonder why? |

Shay,
Intresting enough I also wake nightly at around the 3am hour, so does my husband and so do my kids. This is the main question we have been putting out there for anybody that has any reasons why. Since moving here in 05 my entire family complains of being tired and not sleeping well. Waking up many times a night and never getting an full nights rest without being up and down. I have a crippling form of arthritis so this is not unusal for me to be up and down all night but my children sleep deeply. We could have a herd of elephants come through and they wouldn't here it. So it is an intresting question and I really don't even know how to begin finding an explanation for it. |

Ghostlymom,
It's funny you should mention that...My husband and I haven't been sleeping well either...He mentioned this morning that he hasn't been sleeping the whole night thru and I told him yep I haven't either...The kids have been sleeping ok but my youngest is on pain meds so she sleeps like a rock. Sometimes I'll wake and look at the clock and it will be 2:45 a.m. and then I'll drift back to sleep and then wake again an hour later...Have no idea why...I don't do caffeine only a small cup of coffee in the morning and I avoid sugar..."Hypoglycemic" so it's not that..I also dream in between and remember the dreams perfectly. I'd really like to find out why this is happening so often and also we "my hubby and I" are feeling really drained..but lack of a good nights sleep will do that. |

Well meth, you have a point there. Ever since i had my first disastrous ouija session, i've been seriously jumpy, and i'm scared of the dark a lot... I may go into this on another post....
J
PS, would you be able to post the photos of spirits in your house on the forums? |
