On the defanging of bunk paranormal groups, been there done that.... A couple years ago Rick, Kenny(PIRA), and others had a campaign going against IGHS (Dave and Sharon), it worked and they are seen as less than knowledgeable (even silly) now but at a cost. It made them look like vengeful assholes! I never saw them that way though, I knew what they were trying to accomplish! I have debated Dave before and he is a complete moron, all he could harp on was that his organization was 14,000 strong and all over the world. I pretty much told him the church of satan had more people than that and I don't agree with their philosophy either.
It always seems that when an organization hits a brick wall in their research they turn to religious rhetoric, dogma, and fantasy creatures instead of looking for more avenues or asking someone more knowledgeable than themselves. A perfect example would be paravision! These fools seemed to have a good thing going. The fact that they were trying to invent scientific words, phrases and create a new pseudo-physics didn't bother them or they thought that no one would notice their bullshit. Instead of comparing the activity they were seeing to known anomalies science had already seen they attributed these things to God, the devil, creation or angels, which are intellectual cop-outs.
Sheesh, nevermind trying to figure something out! Nevermind trying to INVESTIGATE what is going on...! Oh, I fell down and busted my lip on the coffee table, it must have been a demon! Instead of, my dumbass forgot to put my shoes in the closet and I tripped over them. _________________ Frank Ratka

LMFAO! Damn, I missed this post somehow!
If i've said it once, i've said it a thousand times - It is because of overly superstitious, mystics like IGHS and the Warrens that there is so much nonsense spread throughout the majority of the paranormal research community, as well as the general public. They are the forefathers of ghost "study" who set forth all of the misinformation and the same old tired and unproven theories and belief systems that most groups still live by. They are the reason that the whole wheel needs to be reinvented.
What's even worse is, they are over-rated, over-exposed, money grubbing publicity hounds. To this day, they and their clones ("students") get far too much media attention on all of these TV shows, publications and in movie extras, which continues to spread all of their fallacies throughout the world like the plague.
Don't get me wrong though, all science begins with a theory, but if these theories haven't been validated with some kind of honest to goodness, SUPPORTIVE EVIDENCE after over 50 years, isn't it about time to start thinking outside of the mystical box? The problem is, 99% of paranormal investigators state everything as if it were factual. Then new, up and coming paranormal investigators come along and base their groups on the same old theories and do the same thing. People just need to start being more honest and choosing their wording a lot more carefully. As I told you before, Frank - I can't think of very many paranormal explanations that shouldn't start with any of the following words: "One theory is that....", "Some people believe that....", "Evidence has been collected, which POSSIBLY SUGGESTS that....", "It COULD be that....", etc, etc, etc. In the same token, every one of those sentences should end with any of the following: "BUT, it hasn't been proven yet", "BUT, there isn't any evidence of it yet", "BUT, we are still searching for ways to prove it", etc.
I am just as guilty as anyone for having followed their theories and belief systems initially when I first started out, but the difference is, I quickly realized these same old theories that have been being preached as the gospel for decades have very little (if any) validity, as I gained more experience and began formulating my own theories and looking for more logical ways to document evidence. I'm STILL trying to weed out and reword a lot of the popular misinformation that I originally put on the SHGHRS site!

I agree and I have also fallen victim to there bullshit at first but like you was able to see through it pretty quickly once you experience the "dead" for yourself. I have also been guilty of stating research hypothesis as facts but in my own defense I didn't realize I was doing it. By nature I am a persuasive writer and not a techinical writer.
You can explain anything with religion or mysticism by just making up more bullshit. 8) _________________ Frank Ratka
